Caballos de Luz
In Uruguay, at the foot of a small mountain range called Las Sierras de Rocha, lovers of horses and vegetarian cooking will find their little paradise. Less than an hour away from Uruguay’s beautiful beaches, Caballos de Luz is located amidst pasture lands, pristine creeks, rocky mountain slopes and native forest.
Lucie and Santiago, the owners, are both well travelled and love to cook creative meals, using recipes inspired by Thai, Indian and Mexican cuisine. Most of the vegetables are from their own organic garden, and they use milk products and honey from the neighbors’ organic dairy farm.
Although delicious vegetarian food will be an important part of your stay with Caballos de Luz, the main attractions are the horses. They have been bred and raised with a lot of love and patience. Using natural horsemanship techniques Lucie and Santiago train their horses without using force or violence. They will take you for trail rides through this magnificent scenery that reminds one of old Western movies and conveys a sense of space, stillness, freedom and adventure.
The owners speak German, English and Spanish and are well prepared to give riding instructions to beginners, and with the help of their reliable and well trained horses, can take you out on a little trail ride as soon as the first day.
Uruguay is a country well off the beaten tourist tracks. Its natural rural rhythm of life, the locals’ heartfelt hospitality and its wide open, seemingly untouched, natural landscapes seduces one. The beach resorts are busy in the high season from January through March, and very quiet all the rest of the year. The absence of heavy industry and big cities leaves Uruguay with incredible purity of air, deep silence, and amazingly clear night skies. Uruguay boasts an efficient public transport system and is generally considered the safest country to travel in South America.
You will enjoy relaxing in this beautiful nature, and feel nurtured by our horses and our delicious vegetarian meals.
